The arsenal was organised as an assembly line which was able to launch a galley in the battle every day. 
In 1570, while Venice was defending Cyprus from the Turks, they prepared 100 galleys within 2 months.

Arsenal’s lion : 

the lion keeps care in front of the arsenal’s doors. It started in Greece, in Piree’s port. It was already very famous in the Ancient Times so that it became the ‘Lion’s port’. 

One used to wonder what the engravures on its shoulders meant. We finally found out they were characters used by old Vikings. They were dated from the 11^th century and show the signatures of Asmud, Asgeir, Thord and Ivar, all Norvegian mercenaries of Harold the Great. Old graffitis !
