Venitians used to hand in letters denoncing tax evasion. To be taken into account, the letters had to be signed and brought together with the testimony of a third party. 
Sandalous … ? 
Nowadays we are scandalised by that specific box for denonciation letters because our own letter boxes would never get any mail like this … but if they would, the public  administration would never take it into account, whether they are signed or not !

well ..... better go on with the visit !

Doges’ home. All political decision used to be made there. It was also the headquarters of the city council as well as the Law courts, from the 9^th century until the end of the Republic in 1797.

The present palace was built in the 14^th century.
